COMPUTERS AND ANIMATION

Computers used in animation-

Much of the hand drawing and coloring that is used in traditional animation has been replaced by similar work done on computers. The same skills at drawing and analyzing the animation are needed to create animations on a computer. The human animator has not been replaced, just retrained to use the available technology. Todays complex computer animations are very labor intensive. The more photo realistic productions take huge amounts of time and labor to produce.

Currently hand sketching is still the starting point for animations. No computer program has quite replicated the ease of drawing with a pencil on a pad of paper.

Their are several graphics tablets that allow sketching but most animators still like to do their preliminary sketches on paper.

These hand sketches are then scanned and downloaded to the computer for use as guides for their digital versions.
