Animatics-
Animatics are animated storyboards. They are used in the pre-production stages of animation are used in the advertising industry to help produce commercials. They are used by Video game companies to preview video game designs.
Animatics can be made by filming storyboards. They can also be produced with computer animation.
The animatic is made after the soundtrack is created and before full animation begins.
An animatic typically consists of pictures from the storyboard filmed in rough synch with the soundtrack. This allows the animators and directors to work out any problem areas that may exist with the current storyboard and timing with the soundtrack.
The storyboard and soundtrack are modified as needed. A new version of the animatic may be created and reviewed until it is just right.
Editing at the animatic stage helps prevent creating scenes that might be edited out of the full cartoon thus saving plenty of time and money.
When the animatic is completed and approved by the director it is sent to the design departments.
